Microchip and KIOXIA America Successfully Complete Industry’s First 24G SAS End-to-End Storage Interoperability Test

Microchip Technology Inc. and KIOXIA America, Inc. (formerly Toshiba Storage America) today announced the successful completion of the industry’s first 24G SAS end-to-end storage interoperability test. The industry-standard 24G SAS infrastructure provides data center, cloud, hyperscale and enterprise server/storage customers with increased performance, security and reliability, while preserving existing investments in SAS infrastructure.

This interoperability test demonstrates that Microchip’s industry-leading 24G SAS product suite and KIOXIA 24G SAS solid-state drives (SSDs) can work together as part of a next-generation storage solution. Microchip’s 24G SAS test products include SmartROC 3200 PCIe® Gen 4 tri-mode RAID On Chip (ROC) controller, SmartIOC 2200 input/output controller (IOC) and SXP 24G SAS expander. These proven components can be used to deploy new server and storage systems, improving system performance while maintaining backward compatibility with existing infrastructure.

The 24G SAS (SAS-4/SPL-5) standard, created to complement the latest PCIe Gen 4 data center input/output (I/O) specification, doubles the storage interconnect bandwidth of previous SAS standards, eliminating CPU Host interface bottlenecks and more efficient use of old and new storage infrastructure. The 24G SAS features robust Forward Error Correction (FEC) to support a broad range of enterprise-class server/storage use cases while minimizing system cost.
