Chip prices soared 5 times: Taiwan’s semiconductor factories shut down

Since the beginning of the year, the world has faced a shortage of chips, which has led to price increases and shortages of many Electronic products, which cannot be bought with money. Today, this situation may be exacerbated again, and it is estimated that there will be more products going crazy in price.

Last week, KYEC, a major semiconductor packaging and testing company in Taiwan, said that the company was affected by the severe epidemic, and the factory had to shut down for 48 hours for employee testing and factory disinfection. It was reported on June 7 that KYEC has completed the rapid screening of 7,106 people in the whole factory, and found 103 positive patients and 195 confirmed cases. The confirmed cases and related close contacts have been sent to isolation and medical treatment.

The outbreak in Taiwan this time is quite serious and has affected many electronics factories and semiconductor factories. KYEC is the company known to be the most severely affected. Although the company conducts comprehensive disinfection in a timely manner and conducts screening tests for all employees, the production work of the factory will still be greatly affected, and whether employees can resume work and restart the production line is a problem.

As the largest packaging and testing company in the global chip industry chain, Taiwan KYEC is at the core of chip production, providing multiple services such as wafer needle testing and IC product testing. KYEC has close cooperation with many technology companies such as Intel, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, and MediaTek. Now its production is blocked, which is expected to have a serious impact on these customers.

At present, there is no guarantee whether other chip foundries have similar risk situations. Once more factories are affected by the epidemic, they will face a larger area of shutdown and production, and chip production will be hit hard.

At present, the global shortage of chips has seriously affected various industries. Many car companies have to stop taking orders or delay supply due to insufficient chips. The price of liquid crystal Display panels is also rising wildly, and the price of TV sets has risen by more than 30% compared with the same period last year. There are insufficient components such as driver chips, and many devices with displays have experienced price increases and shortages.

Today, the supply of chips from Intel, NVIDIA, Qualcomm and other companies has been blocked again, and the prices of processors, notebooks, mobile phones and other products may also increase. On many e-commerce platforms, Intel’s desktop processors are already out of stock, not to mention graphics cards, which cannot be bought with money.

Both Sony and Nintendo said that the company was affected by the supply of chips, the production of products was hindered, the production capacity could not be guaranteed, and the supply may be in short supply for the next year. Today, many semiconductor factories in Taiwan are affected by the epidemic and may continue to reduce production or stop work. The global core shortage has intensified again, and it is estimated that it is impossible to return to normal in the short term.
